1953 world record Grizzly was killed with a 22 Long but it's lost favor in modern times as a Grizzly cartridge https://www.ammoland.com/2017/06/be...-the-1953-world-record-grizzly-and-more/

I have never shot a deer with a 45/70 but I have shot over 50 with a muzzleloader shooting 45 cal bullets ant the same speed. If your shooting over 2200 fps I agree with you. When I moved to a savage smokeless at those speeds they started dropping or falling within 15 to 20 yards. But at 1800fps black powder speed they ran .

The drop as fast with a 243 , 7mm-08 , and many others, with less recoil and much more range. And in reasonably close a .22lr will put them down without a single kick. So will a bow when shot in the head.

So far I'm very impressed with the 350 legand for ammo restricted areas. but my sample size had been only 4 and only with one ammo offering. But a 243 is still better if it's an option.

We all have our favorites. I don't feel under guned with any of them just use them within their limits.

Air guns have become legal for deer here during gun seasion. I am tempted to try that out but it's a bunch n of expense and like hunting with subsonic ammo I would be better off with bow or x bow.

270, 30-06, 308, and 6.5CM are pretty popular around here.

I have an 06 and it's a good round but it's also as boring as a wood paneled minivan with hubcaps and honor student stickers.

I got my first 280 in 1990. I still have it and a few others have joined the "flock".

I have nothing clever to put here.

Depends on the criteria of very effective. Depending on the criteria a hammer is very effective

My criteria for a very effective cartridge is any broadside, quartering or hard quartering angle, pentetrate through any and all bones it will come into contact within these shot angles, 1 1/2 time bullet expansion and make an exit wound out to at least 100 yds. Anything less is not "very effective" in my opinion, maybe adequate but not very effective. If we are talking head shot there's not really any rifle that won't get the job done on any North American species if you get close enough.

Definitely the 30-06 would be the most popular deer rifle in MN. Another definite is anybody shooting a long action cartridge is a cross dresser.

I don’t know about most popular but .223 works awesome on deer.

30-06 has been around for more than a century. Theres a few more old smokeless cartridges that rifles are still being chambered in. What else is there to say? Lots of old calibers are pretty much extinct. 30-30, 45 acp, 22 rimfire, are still here cause they work.

Truth be known, with a good BULLET, they will all perform just fine.

I was just trolling. Surprised it took so long to get a reaction
Seriously though, I can't imagine that it's nearly as popular as it was back in the 40-50 years ago, there are so many better shooting calibers available now.

Lots of 30-30’s here I believe. I hear a lot about 30-06’s too as a dual round elk cartridge since we got elk. Quite a few .243’s around too.

The big trend now is rehashing older cartridges into something new by changing the twist rates due to the availability of better high BC/SD bullets. since thee miniscule 6.5 grendel came out twisted 8, firing a 120+ gr bullet and it was accurate to 600+ yards a dumpster fire started. 6.5 creed = a 250 savage necked to .264 and the pressure bumped up and firing 140+ gr bullets, 6.8 western= a 270 WSM with a faster twist to shoot heavier bullets, 6mm ARC a 6mm PPC with a fast twist. folks are gonnna shoot what they find ammo for. have you tried finding ammo for a 25 WSSM? how about 6 mm? Me which is my favorite? The one in my hands at the time that I have confidence in. Most of my deer hunting is covered by these, depending on the range of shots anticipated.
