Took my bud and his kid out for some walleye last night. 25 fish at 24" average in a few hours, all went back. Biggest was 28"

He was pretty happy

And went for a quick hunt this morning.

I learned long ago to always use my full

Lol

I think many fail to realize that with 20% more effort, most experiences can be make 80% better.

Whether that involves planning, tweaking something or taking the time to perfect a skill, or learn to do something just a bit better.

Last year I took the kid put and we got 34 walleye, including a 30 1/4', 29", 28, and a whack of 26".

Average was about the same. We had one 20" last night, but I pulled him out of the calculation to inflate the data a bit haha

Those are some beautiful walleye Hutchey.

They are native to this country, S W Missouri. We have a few native and they have a successful re-stocking program now.

Use to be a lot of gigging here, a lot more than there is now. Locals wanted fish, they didn't fool with rod n reel, they either gigged or trot-lined for them. And they didn't care too much what kind. Fish was fish. Something to eat.

Story is that during the Depression, lots of gigging went on and the walleye were close to wiped out. It's real easy to see those red eyes reflecting on the bottom of the river.
Old timers down here called them jack salmon.

Yes. 15' pole 1 1/2" diameter with a 3 or 4 prong gig head attached. Looks like a really stout frog gig head. You need that long of a pole to reach the bottom of some holes and to help you pole yourself around in the hole. Gighead is made out of good tempered steel. Gig of a night with lights pointed down at the water. Start gigging about this time of year, (November), the water has cleared of its summer turbidity. Giggers now use some really fancy LED lights with reflectors run from a 12v trolling motor battery. Works well. When I was gigging we used coleman lantern mounted in a reflector affair pointed down at the water. Go to the deep holes and gig (spear) the fish. Fish don't like to leave the holes. Legal fish are carp, redhorse etc. About any non-game fish. You follow the fish around in the light with your gig close, say 4" away then stick him and pull him in the boat.

Gig fish, go to the bank and deep fry the fish and some hushpuppies. Drink beer. Good stuff. Party.

Your not froze up yet ?

No, be a few weeks yet before we start seeing any ice. And then it usually comes and goes well into December before it really gets serious
