Hello all, been a while since I’ve made a post. Doin some beaver trapping with the kids. Got a big 50 pounder. He had a 330 on each hind foot. I had one trap on two slides about 6/7 feet apart. Both anchored to the same stake in the middle. I get how he could get a trap on his back foot if he was already fighting one and trying to get away. But how do they get the first trap on a back foot? They don’t back up a slide or go down backwards.
Is it as simple as he went down the slide and didnt hit the trap head on but knocked it down and it got his foot as he was going by? Appreciate all the knowledge I get on here.

Weird things happen from time to time on the line.

Did you have a dive stick? Could have swam over trap and kicked the trigger?

I've had similar happen when I made pen type sets around dam breaks where one or more traps get knocked down by other caught beaver

When setting multiple bodygrips side by side this can easily be avoided by staking the traps solid thru both springs, moving your triggers over to the side so the beaver gets further into the trap, and placing 2 block sticks between the traps on both directions on the approach.

cant always stake solid when your dealing with dams that have been there for decades. You sink your thighs in the slip silt that builds up against the dams. You cant walk in it without risking pulling hamstrings or groins.

Caught an otter in a foothold and a 330 once. It broke the cable holding the foothold and raced right into the 330, I think.
