You are going to want to get a belly wedge in there if it’s not too late or you’ll have a hard time getting it off the board. Square off the skirt on the tail side and pin the leg fur to the belly side…The sight window seems small.

Looks like you did a pretty good job on fleshing you just need to work on boarding. This post is a good place to start -- https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/68328/1

Check out Coon Creek Outdoors on YouTube. I applaud your willingness to finish fur!

Jacob, I commend you for getting in there and learning. Too many anymore don’t even attempt it.

It looks like you fleshed the head too. You can save a little time by skipping that, as it isn't necessary. Just remove any meat chunks. Otherwise, I'd say you are doing well!

Fleshing looks pretty good. As said above go on YouTube and you will find more information on how to properly stretch and pin them out. Keep after it and I hope you have a great season. Maybe some guys can post some pics of coons on boards for you. I’ll look and see if I have any

Also, be aware that there is a different method of opening cuts for wood vs wire stretch. When you put up on wood, you will make a straight cut from heel to heel in front of the vent. There is a distinct line where you’ll see back fur from belly fur and you’ll follow that line. Then make a straight cut when splitting the tail through the vent to the opening cut. After fleshing and when you put it on the board, you’ll be left with two diamonds (one on each side). Those get wrapped around to the belly side and tacked right tight to the leg fur. The result will be a longer hide when graded from the back side.

I might add that the tail gets tacked out as short as possible. Some pleat the tail but I prefer not to. The short tail gives an extra appearance of a longer pelt.

Once you get it off the board, comb all that fur right to the center of the sight window from both sides. This makes the pelt look heavier during grading.

Have yourself a buff rag and wipe the grease from the drying pelt each night while it’s on the board. The last thing you do before you sell the hide is to buff it with the greaser rag and fluff the fur to the center of the sight window. That greaser rag will add life to the leather.

Appearance is half the grade and little things make a difference!!
