I am going to be trapping on a guys private duck hunting preserve in February. He doesn't want his beaver messed with, they make and maintain the ponds on a creek that he duck hunts over. The creek has otter. How do you set body grips for otter that won't catch beaver? If there is a cross over on a beaver dam the beaver would use it more than otter. If I can get into the creek feeding the beaver ponds or leaving, I don't think I could block off part of the creek put in a body grip and expect only otter to go through the set.
Anyone worked out a way to do this? A bank hole with bait inside and body grip guarding the entrance perhaps? Help.

any overland trails entering the water than connect with another body of water? I guess you could buy some comstock cages and set them up in channels and crossovers and have them partially out of the water so anything caught can be still alive. Or go farther downstream till you run out of beaver activity.

Try a dirthole type set near where otter use. Fish oil for lure.

Thank you to all who responded. Right now I don't know if the creek and beaver ponds are deep enough to handle an otter with a foot hold trap. I'll have to find that out when I can go on the property. That's why I asked about body grips, I don't need 4 ft. deep water to use them.

I've only caught 2 otter in my whole life but I was told by a very experienced trapper that otter hunt and catch a lot of rabbits. So back off from the water and see what you can catch. just

They can be caught and held live in a foothold as long as you got plenty of swiveling. They're bad to twist up trap chain more than most. Complete study done Thanks google master
