I am new to trapping only starting last year with one DP trap and neglected my traps over the offseason. For my area trapping season started yesterday and I am not ready at all. Over the offseason I got 6 snares and I would like to get these traps out in the next few days with no scent on my traps. One thing I'm kinda against would be to boil my snares because of the potential to rust from the inside out. Also my DP trap is powdered coated and after a few catches with coons last year it has started coming off should I do anything about this.

I would just set them! Scent on the snares will go away fast. Rusting from inside out will happen and happened to me this year with my 330’s. I use 3/32 cable on them with my trap tag and a snare swivel, then extenion cables from there. After I think 5 years I had one bust while moving traps around. I have cut them all off and replaced them. But that is after several years, your snares should make a catch before then and be twisted up and need new cable anyways. Just set them.

No, snares are one and done.

I wouldn’t worry about shine.

Catch a coon in that DP and he’ll have it all cleaned up for you.

You can save and reuse the swivel and probably the lock, but the cable will be toast. Go get those snares hung and good luck to you.

Yep. I wouldn't do a thing to them on short notice. They will be just fine as is. Go get them set.
