How do you guys keep your snares untangled? I have mine coiled up in bundles of 6 or 12 but didn't know if there's a better way.

You can coil them and put them in a round bucket, if you make the coils about the size of the bucket this works really well to keep them from tangling. But buckets take up a lot of room. To save on room, if you are packing stuff in or trapping out of a fourwheeler or snowmachine you can coil several and put them in a gallon ziploc, then take however many gallon ziplocs with you that you need, worst you will have is the five or six snares you have in the ziploc tangled.

Fox and cat snares I coil them up and put 8 in a sandwich bag.
Under ice beaver snares I dont coil them just put a dozen in a milk bag.
Wolf snares I coil them up and put 6 in a large zip lock bag.
Then I put a bunch of each in my snare bag which is a small packsack with cable cutters, pliers, and some 14 ga and some 9 ga wire.
I can toss the snare bag on the bike or snowmachine or in the sleigh.i carry some 14 ga wire cut to length in my jacket pocket and some cat and fox snares coiled up in the other pocket in case I want to drop in a trail snare when checking traps.
If I want to set up a new jackpot or an under ice snarepole I just grab the snare pack off the bike or snowmachine and go set it up.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I coil mine into bundles of twelve into a small loop maybe 4 inches across and wrap the extra. Same for extensions. They fit nicely into the pockets of a sling bag I carry pliers, cutters, lure in.

I coil mine up in bundles of 6 and use a wire or plastic zip tie to hold them together. I keep the bundles stacked in a canvas water bucket and get them out as needed. One of the water buckets holds 5 dozen+ snares before it gets too heavy...

Sit with warriors. The conversation is different.

I'm the odd man out here, because most people seem to prefer to bundle a half dozen or dozen snares together at a time.

I treat a single snare as a single unit and usually coil each snare individually. I generally use a 4" cable tie or two per snare, but if I don't use a cable tie, I'll use the last foot or so of the extension cable to wrap around the coil.

This takes into consideration everything that happens from the time I build, load, and coil that snare until the day I'm standing somewhere about to make a set. I don't have to deal with tangles, because they don't come unwrapped until I need them. At all. If you build or buy snares specifically loaded for different target animals, knowing which is which is as simple as using a different color cable tie. They're cheap.

While we're talking snare storage, it has been my experience that the easiest way for me to neatly transport any number of snares (or extensions) is by putting them on large and very large carabiner clips. I can fit up to a couple dozen on a single clip, and I'll clip that onto my beaver bag or 4wheeler rack. This may not be the best for everyone, but it sure works well for me.

I coil mine individually and stack in a container.
