Hey gents, living in the Communist State of Illinois with their infinite wisdom on firearms, we have been so graciously allowed to use straight walled rifles for hunting whitetail deer. I am looking for suggestions for a decent 350 legend rifle for my wife (6' tall & petite frame). I'm fond of Remington's and Savage but am open to others. Let me know what you have, what you like/dont like, etc. Do you like the 350 for deer and possibly hogs?

My advice is don't buy an upper for an AR from Bear Creek. I had to send mine back for repairs and replacement 5 times before it would shoot more than 3 rounds without jamming. Lots of bad feedback on them as well. I tried both styles of them.

If I were looking for a bolt gun, I like the compactness and magazine style of the Ruger American Ranch in .350L. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/ruger-american-rifle-ranch-bolt-action-rifle-in-350-legend

We are saddled with the same regulation as you. My boy loves his Henry Carbine lever gun in .44 mag. Its a nice rifle.

Dont forget they are so gracious to allow us to use such dangerous means as straight wall rifle catridges. And are so concerned for our safety that they only allow us the use of single shot rifles. Gotta love this state.

Yet, I can stack 3 slugs in a shotgun. Doesn't make any sense at all.

I keep seeing the 350 legend in hunting mags with the same old canned reviews. I was curious about someone with real world experience with one or any other straight walled caliber rifle for deer hunting. This is new to us here in IL.

Howdy, I killed 5 does during a late season antlerless hunt with a 450 bushmaster. It did a fine job. Just like you I read all the reviews. It has to much recoil and is to loud they said. Hogwash, I say after using it. Didn’t feel it had any more recoil than a 20 gauge slug gun.
For a woman or young hunter I could see where the 350 legend would be a joy to shoot.
I’m setting in a blind right now with my bushmaster. Good luck. Killem!

I am interested in it as well, with 20 gauge sabot slugs being a rarity to find anymore. And 350 legend ammo is everywhere even before we could use rifles, it might be a good option for my daughter.

I know the guy that taught the hunters safety class when I took my son about 4 years ago had one for his grandaughter. He had it set up as a "pistol" with a "shoulder brace" so it was legal and he seemed to like it amd she had taken a few deer with it. I didnt ask a lot of info as his set up seemed a little too much in a gray area for my liking.

Only 3? WTH?

Yep, 3 shells in a shotgun for any hunting. Yet I could deer hunt with a 357 or 45 colt revolver with 6 rounds and thats legal. Doesnt make any sense to me at all.

Got a CVA for my 8-year-old grandson last year and he shot a dandy 9 pointer at 120 yards with it. Has killed a couple of does also. Great little gun and easy to tote around.

I look at it this way the single shot law is bs but I’ve been shooting a TC encore since 2008 because I hunt over a CRP field needed range this is great w/ o the smoke . The laws are based on Chicago where they only hunt people they don’t know or care how the rest of us live

If you can find somebody willing to part with it: A Rem 788 in .44 mag is a fine shooting rifle. Especially if you want to carry a pistol in that caliber And, NO, so don't ask! LOL

Savage is a great gun. I purchased the package with a scope for my son. Easy to shoot and site in. I see they have it on sale at Dicks for Black Friday for $299. Can't go wrong. Sad part is my son will never know the kick of a 20 gauge slug gun. lol. They do make a 350 Legend on an AR platform, that could be fun.

I went to 357 mag when indiana allowed carbines. I had great results and lots of dead deer over the years. 350 legand is a fraction if an inch smaller diameter at 3.55(9mm) vs 3.57 and 400fps faster with heavier bullets. So knew I would like it.

I bout both my boys a CVS scout. My youngest shot 4 deer with his during indiana and ky youth this year 8 point at 55 yards droped it doe 8 min later at 88 yards sgmhe made it 17 yards blood trail was great and chunks of lung on opisit side od where she was shot. He shot 2 doe in KY one 110 ot made it 25 yards another at 35yards and it also went maybe 30 yards.

All with winchester 150gr I was impressed enough I gouge my 13 year old one just like it. But that one will not shoot the win ammo without 8" vertical stringing. I found it shoots Hornady 170 sp ok but he has not shot any deer with it yet to see how that bullet compares.

Some results. That big hole is the entre hole bullet went through the front leg first. He was shooting upward from the ground off his bi pod
I like it and have seen great results. Honestly I think it's about the best thing you can get off the shelf ammo for that fits inside our restrictions for public land.

Tomorrow my boys will be huntingnon out farm so can use the 243 and 7mm-08 if they want but they both are choosing their 350 legands. So obviously they like them also.

I bought an upper for my AR from Mid-Way and have shot is a few times. It is much more accurate than any of my shotguns are. The 350 legend shot a good group right off the bat without even trying too hard. It doesn't kick much more than a .223 in the AR. But I might sell it anyway since our crappy state politicians made it where we have to register them the first of the year or it's a felony. Shoots great- haven't shot any game with it yet.

Just passin through
