If it was a thief and had the assumed knowledge(s) aforementioned, likely would have searched a little and found some other sets, ?
A 330 set isn't very hard to spot if you (barely) know what you're looking for.... or many other sets.
I guess you're lucky to only be missing one.

good points all around thanks for the comments i will go back there and look around more but he was about 4 foot from the set location pulled up to the bank,trap was wired down to a decent stake but i will check it out thanks btw he was a hog boarded him to day 73 inches, got 3 more from that pond today 2 decent size and another monster will go over 70 inches, banchee

If you don’t find it definitely report it missing, I had some snares come up missing and the person who stole them had set them illegally on ground I had just gotten to trap, imagine my surprise when I went to scout it and I already had snares set. crazy
