Right out of high school I had a job as a MCC crew member working for almost all the departments within the MDNR. We occasionally got the chance to work for the wildlife manager and every year got to set up and monitor the yearly scent post surveys for our local area. I looked forward to that every year as it was astonishing the variety of different animals that visited the scent posts. The tabs we used were a fatty amino acid tablet placed in the middle of a sifted circle of dirt, it smelled like nasty spoiled yogurt and vomit 🤮 to me but animals seemed to like it, although would only smell the tablet. I was wondering if anyone has used these tabs or heard of anyone using them trapping? the animals always seemed to walk straight up to the tabs and sniff em, showing no sign of hesitation.

Not sure if anyone I know uses them for actual trapping, but Tall Timbers uses them for their predatory index on local plantations. See them often on the plantations I’ve been on.

My son works for the MN DNR wildlife and recently ran a survey route. I’ll ask him about it.

Sounds like a great lure. Are you trying to determine the manufacturer?

I guess I'm interested in the makeup of the tablet's they use. Ive never smelled any type of trapping lure or bait that had the distinct smell those tabs had. It would draw in such a variety of critters I'd think it would be a great curiosity scent.

Found ‘em. Not sure what’s in it, but you’ve peaked my curiosity.
