Hope you all aren't experiencing losing trapping permission on some of your areas A multi car dealership conglomerate bought some of the country I have trapped for years and have decided to do nothing but hunt deer on the property. I think they may find in a couple years after huge fawn losses that a predator trapper is a good thing lol. Am downsizing have some of my coyote traps listed on trap shed

The tide is turning here so to speak. In some of the ag lands I have historically seen a little apprehension by owners to kill off too many canines. Usually folks running specialty crops that can be hit hard by rodents over winter especially and hoping canines kept that in check. But there was usually some leeway in the form of if you trapped off some other destructive critters like coon or rats you coujd catch a few canines. Or a guy could find summer damage control $ instead. But normally the typical grain farms didn’t care one way or the other. Many of thise leased out to deer hunters and were ok killing everything off from coon to rat to fox or coyote.

I’ve been hearing a different tune a little more each year. And very noticeable this year. Basically goes like this—-farmers are starting to get serious about controlling deer leases. In other words they are dictating how many people hunt, when and where within the property. And if you plan to be there it’s deer killing nit trophy hunting. You will kill everything that shows or nit be coming back. All because Deer and Turkey damage is taking too much from profits. And they are starting to put together that if a coyote kills a few of thise critters its a win. I can’t blame them. Id actually do the same thing as a business But how exactly this plays out fir coon I don’t know. Guessing the serious full time farmers are going to find themselves paying for summer damage control on that end or some kinda blended trapping control contract over year. The best thing that coujd happen around here would be a change to deer leases and large enough doe harvest to impact herd

Yep, happening here. Between out of town buyers, and leased for hunting ground.

A lot of the area I have lost is due to habitat distruction. Can still get permission, but nothing left for habitat...So I move on to better grounds, which is getting hard to come by.

Seems like everything in the south, from Texas east is all money related. You either pay to hunt or trap or get payed to do so. And with almost no public ground it seems like it is either a job or a rich mans sport, depending on what end of it you are on.

Nah man, we have public land to hunt. Some of it pretty good too. Not a lot of trapping opportunities on public but no one is making money on our furs either. Luckily it’s the management aspect that people pay for. Can’t have fawns, poults, and chicks with coyotes, coons, and possums. Folks like Swamp and Bossman on here get paid to get rid of habitat and road destroyers…beaver. Hogs are also a big nuisance as well and people make money taking folks hunting at night. I’m not into that, I enjoy doing it myself and getting paid for it.
Luckily our DNR is onboard with predator removal as well as we have several predators without a season and can be taken by trapping or hunting day or night.
Wouldn’t say it’s a rich man’s game, just pay if you want or get paid if you want. Unlike an Idaho cat, ours ain’t bringing $700+ lol. Maybe Swamp will chime in and tell his price he gets for our beautiful bobkitty’s.

Deer hunting here takes $$. Either gotta lease land to hunt or put gas in truck to drive to public lands. Some public land is great hunting. Relatively easy to find good public hunting areas with lots of game.

Nobody here pays to trap...other than putting gas in truck...amd buying gear/supplies.

Trapping permission is easy to get here. Not very many large scale trappers. But there are many do-it-yourselfers with a handful of traps that watched YouTube videos to learn. Most of these do not skin/put up fur. Catch em and ditch em....Coyotes and coons mostly.

Larger landowners are willing to pay for good beaver and predator trappers that can produce. If you can't catch'em...you're out.

Southern bcats last year = $60s tops from GFW/100% clearances. $100+ avgs at FH/much lower clearances.
