Where are they at this stage?

I’ve heard stay out of bedding areas but tonight when I just fired up the generator 5 doe where laying down behind the shed. This late in the evening they must be just resting before taking to the field next door? Surely they aren’t bedding down this close?

In Mn, the main breeding phase is over.
Bucks just started in earnest again yesterday checking scrapes and does are now feeling a bit more at ease coming out to feed.
Nows a great time to catch mid day buck movement.

This scrape was literally on fire from about Oct 20_ Nov 4th.
About the 6th, I basically went dead till yesterday.
Lots of pics of bucks walking by but few working it.
Almost year in/ out, bout Nov 20th, it starts getting pounded again by the bucks that made it through gun season.
However, gun season is just about nonexistent here anymore and a good number of bucks have a chance to get older.
My cell came blew up today. Guessing 8_10 bucks worked it. Mostly mid day.
These 2 new guys showed up. Hope to see them next year or 2.

Most of the deer here are in the "jerky" or "sausage" phase, I believe.

Those does are likely hiding from the over-amorous bucks still trying to score.
They figured the buck wouldn't dream of them bedding that close to people.

Our big boys are apparently locked down with does. Does don’t even want to move for fear of getting run all over creation. About the only does I see are ones with real young fawns. Don’t think they’re anywhere close to estrous.
I call this the SUCK aspect of the rut! You about have to be right on top of them to score right now unless you can find one just finishing and looking for the next lady.

As far as bedding, here in our area I don’t believe they have a specific spot they go to each night. I find beds absolutely every where.

Some does get the disease " nocturnal " in some places though.
hobbie Trapper, multiple reasons why they were bedded that close. Coyotes close by, wind protection,
But, bottom line, they felt safe there and most likely have bedded there in the past.
Was not to avoid buck for sure. If she's smelling right, a buck will go anywhere she does!

Including a back yard, front yard, median of the highway, lol.

Our cameras right now are hardly showing any activity, day or night. In fact, my son just text and said I hate the rut!! We’re getting no pics except a few does that have young young fawns and some small bucks as in 1-2yr olds. We went from getting hundreds of pics a night to maybe 30-40.

maybe starting to settle just a bit with a little less pressure today , but as of this morning still running in circles where I was hunting with about 300K people chasing them state wide

it was 600K on Saturday

by dusk I was seeing them in fields eating on the way home along 151 by Beaver Dam , I assume those fields didn't get the most hunting pressure

man is there a nice buck at the Outagamie county Dump , stands on the side of the hill watching 41bunch of does also all behind the fence

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Wish you had posted some of those “ midday” pics . Shown us what age deer are moving there midday. That bottom pic if he was here and the rut was winding down his tarsal glands would have been really dark . That pic appears they are not . Our does don’t get a disease that makes them go nocturnal. It was the 70-80 degree heat with 50’s at night I noticed according to your pic it was 37 in the first one and 27 in the last one. Temps make all the difference in the world when it comes to deer movement. If you don't think so then your not nearly as keen on deer behavior as you claim to be. Nice looking deer . Wish we could see those mostly midday instead of only nocturnally sick deer.

The pine goats in my neck of the woods have moved less this November than normal. Finally getting some cold air in place so hopefully movement will increase.

Funny, but true story! Ending not so much.

Two locals I'd call friends were at a camp playing cards the night before season. They have a motion sensor light on the outhouse and it came on a couple times, and when they looked out they saw a buck. The one fella was a joker and they dared him to sit in the outhouse and shoot the deer.

After they quit playing cards and went to bed, they heard a boom.

Sure enough, Pooker (his nickname) had the buck stretched out! He needed to use the outhouse in the middle of the night so he took his gun along and propped the door open, and he got lucky, lol.

Pooker is gone now, him and another guy were going down a road when someone coming the other way hit a deer and it threw the deer through their windshield and really messed both them up. They lived a couple months with severe head injuries but Pooker died. The other one is in a vegetative state ever since.
