I dunno how many times I’ve heard that pocket sets take to long to make…wasting your time when you can use another method.
I’ve been trapping for well over 45 years,,, and I guess it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
But with a pocket set, it’s virtually like Christmas,,, you never know what you might catch…
Only thing I haven’t caught with a pocket has been a badger or skunk…
This morning I pulled up a dandy 50 pound beaver….( I did use a Blake and lamb #3 because of the otter in this creek. I’m always looking for a nice place to pop in a pocket. Lol just gotta make sure you have plenty enough at the business end…..

I'm with you on pocket sets! Use them all the time.
But mine don't often look like the perfect ones you see in the magazines. Nor are they dug a foot deep starting perfectly at the water line and sloping upward like the articles describe.
Mine are dug quick and dirty, or often just a hole kicked into the bank with my boot. Not pretty, but gets the job done.

I have to agree, had an old timer tell “dig a 100 pockets catch a hundred mink”. He was correct in the area we were in but not across the country. I’ve caught a skunk but not a badger fox or coyote.

I guess I am in the minority. I set SOME pocket sets but prefer blind sets.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Today was a very good day for pockets!! As I said before,, they can be like Christmas, you never know what you will get,,, 3 otter and a few rats … out of 6 pockets. I’m going to try to get some more pockets out there this weekend.

Good for you. got a mink today in a pocket set. To me a pocket set is nothing more than a horizontal dirt hole set.

Are the otter pretty dark leathered still?
Ours are very dark until at least mid December.

Pocket sets rock.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Great catches. I'm going to have to try some pocket sets. Good to know they don't have to be text book perfect.

Put a blind set on each side. The number of doubles and triples will amaze you.

I’m not sure,,, I’ll find out tomorrow when I start scraping. They have so much gristle it’s hard to see the leather

Without consulting my notebook for an exact number, I'm running about 90 pockets right now.
