Pretty big difference in those March FHA prices and what's being discussed today. As far as the #2 goes it probably accounts for 2/3rds of the castor they get in the house. Buyers couldn't get it for the discounted #3 price.
So, Western #2 sold it looks like. Or at least some of it did.
What (asks you) is the difference between western and eastern? Color. The eastern is much darker. At least that's the way it's been explained to me.

So, Lure prices went up because Castor was so high. I’m looking forward to the lure prices to come down! 😆 Castor came down, but bottles and ingredients have increased significantly. If everything stayed the same, except castor coming down, I could see dropping lure prices. If castor remained high, I could see an increase in lure prices above what they are now.

I've never used anything but castor I've harvested myself. I know some of the beaver lures made by those in the south (like Backbreaker) have a different odor to them, but I always assumed they had other ingredients in them that caused this. Maybe it is the southern castor odor though.

What about the in between beaver?Or does it change right at the Mason Dixon line.

Thats why the Bob Wilson's GREEN Beaver lure works so well in the north! Worked in Arkansas, but not as well as Backbreaker. Not sure where John graham gets his castor but his worked well down here for me. Believe it or not so did Clint locklears

Boco- I'm guessing they eat on different tree bark? I have no idea... The northern beaver's favorite food is aspen. We don't have aspen down here. Our beaver's favorite foods down here seem to be sweet gum and privet. I know it's not a genetic thing that determines castor odor, because we have some Wisconsin beavers down here that were transplanted years ago. They still have the long nice fur, but their castor smells just like the other southern castor.

I agree with Paul that it seems to be what they're eating. Our coastal lake beaver eat primarily lilly rhizome and the castor is very different than our interior river beaver that forage on cottonwood and willow.
The latter being the better smelling as far as I'm concerned.
