Just went to check my game cam chip I see one snow sitting on the beach no attempt to fly away then halfway to the cam another in the shore weeds just sitting there. So far 5 snows and 1 Canada goose acting sick I have feathers all over the yard with the cats dragging and eating the dead ones. I’ve got a bush pile to burn so I’ll need to gather up the sick and dead ones for a Viking type funeral.

Last year I could stand on the beach and count 30-40 dead or dying birds but with less geese this year plus they did not stay as long as the last time.

If it's the same disease that killed our hawks I'm good with another round of it. I've seen way more rabbits, quail and pheasants this year than I've seen in a very long time.

Avian flu?

Or wore out and carrying some steel shot from the migration?

Flu is my guess not much shooting going on it’s been a problem for the last few years they just sit there and tip over. I lost 70 chicken last year spring/fall did not even get chicks this year did not see the point.

A lot of sick and dead ones here in Brown county also. Came across quite a few in the middle of corn fields while combining. It's like they just couldn't fly any longer and just dropped out wherever they were. Ran over several with the combine to put them out of their misery. See a good number on sloughs that can't fly.

Just one symptom of overpopulation, and loss of habitat crowding them together.

Are you all seeing any ducks affected by the same disease?

Some of the big sloughs where they are roosting have several hundred sick birds on them and many more that have crawled up in the grass and died. Also big numbers of Specks and ducks dying as well. The flu doesn’t seem to discriminate.
Any birds that feed on them are also susceptible to disease, we have seen the Bald eagles take a hit and it seems that the Snowy Owls have also been hit hard.

That white one I shot was working it’s way inward where the neighbors chickens are he lucked out last year but his cat comes down here all of the time not sure how he’s missed it so far. No ducks here but it’s not a duck lake really not much cover on it.
