Raised 16, gave some to my sisters, son's inlaws, friends and cut up, vac-sealed and froze 6 the same size as the one we cooked today, 40 pounds as it went into the oven (no stuffing). That means we have 240 pounds of turkey in the freezer.

Thats amazing. I'm not even sure that would fit in our oven. We brine our birds, would have to use a garbage can for those suckers.

A forty pound bird, I would think that would be hard to lift in and out of the oven.

Jeez, Eric, is that the type of bird they used to promote WKRP with?

How long it take to get it to 40 lbs?

Turkey was a Mammoth Bronze and was 18 weeks old. Brined it in a Coleman cooler. We have a big oven. Key to really good turkey is to put it back in the cooler after it is removed from the oven and leave it in there for at least 1 hour before carving. Steams itself and makes very moist meat. We had 24 friends and relatives for Thanksgiving and all will be back this afternoon for left overs. Wife's specialty is a cranberry-apple pie. Was consumed so fast I didn't get a picture!
Gray fox is eating at the turkey head and guts pile behind my barn. There are so few of them around I am hesitant about snaring him. Eric

Here's ours. We let them go this year and had ham instead. They need to fatten up a bit in my opinion.

Holy Smokes Eric, that is the largest breast I have ever seen on a Turkey. You should take some close ups of that bird and sell them to some cooking network. smile
