for a coon skin cap? Got a couple grandkids that's going to tag along on a mini trap line here in a few weeks. Thought we would set a few coon sets to introduce them both to the riches of trapping. Figured if we did good I would get them both a coon skin hat made out of those catches.

I've had them made only need one skin per hat.measure there head with a tape to get the size,your good to go.

How big are your raccoons?

For kids, 1 good size coon should be enough. Make an oval for the top, and two rectangles for the sides. Seam in front and back. For youngins, I'd make the sides 3 inches tall at most. I cut the oval out right behind the head and the sides behind that. You can stitch the tail on at the back if they want. For sewing, use heavier thread and use a whipstitch or a blanket stitch.

27" to 30" stretched are fairly common. Do catch some throughout season in cat sets and such that are over 30". Been a few seasons since I actually set specifically for coon. I figure it's a good critter for the grandkids first experience of trapping.

Not many took 28 for a waist length coat for Chrissy
