So for sharpening my wiebe beaver knife how far up the curve do you guys sharpen? Last year I think I was way too far forward and started cutting pelt.
I went back to my little pocket knife with a 2" blade and no tip for a while, Mostly because I know where it is sharp and how to use it.
It would appear that there were several on YouTube that are no longer available.

I sharpen all the way up.

Same as you, I used to be scared of the bigger knives since I was used to using a pocket knife for everything. But trust me, the sooner you leave the little knives to the wayside and learn the proper strokes to use with knives that were meant for beaver skinning the better off you'll be.

Sometime we should get together and I can show you how to make quick work of a tough ol' beaver with the right knives.

I used the smaller Zeph beaver knife for a while, then thought I’d try the big Victornox I bought a long time ago. Wow! Love it. I still use the Zeph for starting around the head past the ears, then switch.
Sharp all the way.

I clean skin most beavers and use the larger Skinners. I sharpen all the way and end up using it almost like two knives. The flat is used when doing the big open parts and round end for going around legs etc.
