These from the old Farmer's Almanac. I thought these very interesting. Tomorrow night is full moon (November 27). Called the "Full Beaver Moon". Alternate names from Native American tribes are "Deer Rutting Moon", "Digging/Scratching Moon", Freezing Moon", "Frost Moon", and "Whitefish Moon". All of these names make perfect sense to me.

That’s really cool. All make good sense to me too.

I follow the moon phases and usually try to get a good picture of each month’s full moon. Like you said, each month can have a few different names for the same full moon. But I usually go by the Farmer’s Almanac names.

Eh...wot?

I like descriptions that have meaning with the event. I agree , Jack. Thanks for sharing.

The OFA had best dates for everything you can think of and I was raised "doing it by the book". I remember weaning by their suggestion and an old country vet who gelded horses by it.

I understand most of those but not the "digging and scratching".........but then I bathe regularly.

I assumed that digging and scratching also referred to the deer rut. Maybe it’s something else.

Sharon is probably right. The "digging/scratching" moon was from the Tlingits, so they'd be keyed into the brown bears.

grin I guessed . It is what I think when I see a strong brawny guy scratching his back against a door frame. " The grizzly bear thing ," is what I call it .

The name here reminded me of that . wink

Being an Irishman from NE Ont I call the November moon the "putting on the long johns moon".
