How do you set in mud without making it look weird with dry dirt? I can't seem to sift any thik so I jus hand crumble it into pea size to marble size pieces. Any solutions.

I've sprayed the dry dirt with water, but that doesn't last very long. I don't have a good way. Other than maybe covering with grass, or duff.

Do they travel through mud if they don’t have to?
I have one farm that is nothing but clay. When it gets wet it isn’t really mud but it is slick. I can remove the setting area and replace it with dirt. Doesn’t seem to bother the fox that I have swapped it out. Can’t speak regarding coyotes.

Ya my area don't get that soupy, have had some after a catch to soupy to fit another in the circle but never had that. Pulling up I have had them so muddy I wasn't sure if I had a small yote or a gray fox. The circle was 4"of mud soup. But earth anchors drive without hitting rocks.

Could always try Major Boddicker's Salted Sand (10 part dry sand to 1 part livestock salt) and trap in a ziploc baggie (cheapest you can find). It wont freeze or clog and it didn't seem to bother the coyotes any, I just top dressed with ground duff very lightly

I had zero issues with deer, and was surprised as here in Iowa we have tons. I was using 4 coiled #3 Montana's in the ultra cheap ziplocs but the salted sand made it east to set anywhere, chop bed, sand, bagged trap, sand over top and top dress with duff or even a bit of dirt.
