I live in Colorado, and they require box traps. The thing is, I'm a long time hunter, but I've never trapped before. How to get started?

Buy size appropriate box traps or build them would be a good start. Pick What are you wanting to target would also help with knowing what size traps you need.

I have a fox-sized trap and I live rurally on 5 acres. I'm surrounded by 5 acre horse properties and we're just outside of a forest. There are foxes and coyotes around (although I don't think my trap is big enough for a coyote).

What's the best way to hide and bait it?

Pine or cedar boughs would work. Other then a young or pup coyote and some fox may wander into a box trap but seldom a coyote IMO. Make sure to check all the laws. Trap tags are required in every state as far as I know. I am sure there are many more.
