I use wire cages like yourself....some even vertical too.
But I set my triggah wires on top...And I bend those wires back towards the bait....with a good upward swoop.
Just makes a more inviting entrance and they don't have any wires in their face

I am no Fisher expert, but usually can fill my tag if drawn. I have seen in the snow where fisher would Circle the bucket or wood cubby but would not commit to the set. I trap in farmland and I think that some fisher get educated after getting wacked by a BG and not caught. I have gone to setting footholds outside the cubby with good success. It works for me.

Had em go by a set and not break stride several times. Then one day you catch em.
No idea why I drive by the kentucky pluck once in a while without going in.

Cover the cage so there is only one place to investigate. Add a sweet bait or lure removing any LDC in cubby. Wait !
Fisher can be the easiest predator to catch or the most fickle creature on earth depending on the day !
