I made two out of a peeled 8 inch 6 foot log of white spruce.about 20 yeqrs ago.
Cut it in spring and peeled it,then cut it in half lengthwise with the chainsaw freehand and shaped the ends with the saw, then when the halves dried I smoothed the ends out with a rasp and sanded.
i gave one away and still have the other one.

This is the first fleshing beam thread in the fur handling archives. Several more after it...enjoy!

Use a 2X6 cut out in the shape of a large fox board with edges curved. This size and shaped beam will accommodate all pelts larger than mink, marten, muskrat, etc. which are easily fleshed on their own shaping boards using a small pelt (stirrup) fleshing tool. Also build it to fit your height angling up about 30 degrees to your solar plexus. [Linked Image]

I did something similar to the one Yukon John posted but I put a board with a dent or hollow on to support it it in the middle.

Tomcat...can you do back leg holes on beaver with that point? Mine is pvc and the way the point is shaped, I can't hardly do them without tearing.

I would think so but I have never fleshed beaver on a beam. I have always clean skinned and fleshed what little is left on the pelt, with a small pelt (stirrup) flesher after partly pinning the pelt on the board.

Freehanded a first cut off a birch log, shaped with a chain saw, hand plane, and rotary sander. Strip of plywood, couple door hinges, and a chunk of 1x6. 20+ years of use. [Linked Image]

I made a few out of 10” or 12” PVC sewer/water pipe. Look around new developments when the roads & infrastructure is going in. There’s usually cutoffs laying around or in the dumpster near the crew trailers. I made 3 out of 1 piece. Sold one, gave one away & the others at the shack. I bought a Top Lot over the summer.

Made one out of a 2x6, shaped and rounded to fit the fleshing knife, hinged it to the floor of my shed and installed a cleat on the floor to fix the mid support, which was also hinged, for the right height... The whole thing can fold up against the wall when not needed....used it for coons.

I made this from a 2x8. It folds up and leans against a wall when not in use.
