"Can you use droppings on the same coyote that deposited them? For example, you pick up some droppings on a 2 track. 100yds away is an intersecting 2 track and you put a set in there because it is a better location. Use the fresh droppings or use something you picked up out of the area."
I watch my dog mark a spot then 10 minutes later investigate that same spot. I see no reason to believe coyotes wouldn't investigate their own droppings especially if it's in a different area.

This pretty much sums it up. I think droppings are just like urine, coyotes can't help from sticking their nose in it. Urine and droppings are the primary calling cards
Need to catch a shy/wary canine. Use a dropping only as the attractor.
Most hard-core seasoned trappers are aware. I’ve killed more savvy adult coyotes on flat sets with poop than anything else. Their continued effectiveness on the line is unmatched.

I don't know any canine trapper that doesn't stop and pick up turds. James Lucero doesn't. I ask him why when I took lessons from him several years back. He said = It ruins the station. His opinion was to leave the droppings alone When dealing with wary older coyotes. BUT as we discussed latter. It's OK to bring in dropping from other areas. I think. His point was = Being old school in sheep. It's better. To NOT move dropping and let the coyote know. That it's game on ! He did use fake droppings and said ~~ it's ok to pick up dropping when = you have removed = The whole family group. Just another. Way to think on it. I don't pick up droppings till latter on. But have dropping on Can Am in Pringle Can right now ! LoL!

Turds here dont seem to last very long in the warm months. I imagine be the time a coyote revisits a spot they are likely to be gone or at least gone past reasonable identifiability. Especially if they are not full of hair. Im not sure how they would know whether you robbed them of one, weather did, or bugs got to them. I used to always use turds, but it didnt seem to help my catch percentages so I leave a lot of them be these days
