Its nice you two are able to run the line together. Having a partner on the line makes life quite a bit easier and more entertaining. Not to mention lightens the load carrying a big wolf back to the sleds!

Made a bait run Wednesday evening and checked some gear, pretty crappy weather but picked up a few marten and an ermine. Headed out this am to drop some steel for the big boys.

Pretty day out there on the line -14 and clear. Picked up 8 marten 1 ermine and a dink red. Cut wolf track cutting across the trail at a different location this run.
Dropped some steel and hung a few snares for the jokers

Bfisch I think we are on the wolves playing the chess game right now trying to get one step ahead As for the wolverine opening week we cut 2 different track about 10 miles apart and dropped boxes there. Hoping they eventually come through again.

Is this a new line Ted has opened up? If it's a regularly trapped line, how were the marten numbers last year?

Same line he has been running for years. Last year numbers were a little below average. The vole / mice population exploded and it seems the marten followed suit.

Vole/ shrew numbers have been stupid high here the past two years.

Pretty miserable weather down here right now. 40 and freaking raining like a big dog. Not seeing much for sign. Couple kitty track but only one set of yote and no marten track. Hoping it is just the weather and things are hunkered down.

Nice work! I'm not a fan of rain and especially not when it is supposed to be winter weather. I finally got a few sets out. Trail conditions have been very poor here with a very slow freeze up and lots of overflow.

Rain/mild weather in winter means lots of work when it gets cold again to get the sets working and ready.I hate when that happens.
I bet the animals will move good as soon as it gets cold again.

Picked up 6 marten and an ermine this run. Had as many refusals as what we caught. Guess they wanted a warm meal vs cold grouse Time to change to a sweet lure 🙂
The wolves were out playing this past week. Had what looked like a pair come back to the bait station looking for their buddy. Of course they skirted around the snares we had set. So dropped a few more.
Had a loner at another set hit my track before he hit the snare and veered off. Then at a pee post one came from the other side.
Put in another bait station with something different:) We will see what happens before I say what it is 🙂

Decent run on the marten today picked up 8 . Plus 3 ermine 2 red squirrels and a flying squirrel. First one Ted has ever caught 🙂
The big boys didn’t come out to play this run hopefully next run.
Finally had 2 lynx come through. One dodged a snare then stepped on the jaw of a trap. The other circled a wolverine box but didn’t want to poke his head in there.
Hopefully with the new moon and colder temps things will start to move a little harder.

Those look like some big ermine. I don't catch a lot of them but I have yet to find a good market for them.

They are easy to tan and come out nice. Native Pow Wows are a great place to sell tanned ermine and Otter..
