disclaimer my sample size is one right now

Winchester Deer season XP 150gr 300 black out

it is a large ballistic tip with a large hollow point
chrono said 1919fps average
box claims 1900 that is close enough

deer was running at me so I shot her down the middle in the neck and it went from neck almost perfectly strait back and down
the bullet was recovered from the belly under the skin between the teets

I tossed a tape measure on after field dressing and finding the bullet in the skin about 25 inches
it went through the arteries that connect the heart shredded
the esophagus that was all shredded where it meets those arteries then the bullet went down through the diaphragm , then through the liver and gut
I was skinning off the belly to field dress it and thought that is weird looking , then realized the bullet had passed through and was caught up in the hide between the teats

it was a decent size doe 70-75 yard shot
she flipped on her size and laid dead legs up talk about a bang flop
the recovered bullet and the deer as she landed after the shot.

recovered bullet weighed 114gr that would make it 76% weight retention but being a large balistic tip it had to loose somthing just to the tip which is intended to come off

What are the ballistics and bullet drop for this round?

this is fired from an AR so 2.7inch height over bore on the optic
125 yard zero is about what I figure I have I sighted in to be an inch high at 100 yards
[Linked Image]

this is a good deer round to use if you have a 300blk
I am in no way advocating this as the best round for deer , I think 308 is better
300blk is a round for a specific circumstances
mine was a township that only allows shotgun and pistol mine is a AR pistol built as such to hunt this location
if your looking for a very low recoil round to fit in an AR that makes an option

I shot my other deer with a 20ga with Sabot slugs also about 75 yards also dropped where it had been.
328gr bullets in a Sabot are a bit more forgiving for 2 holes if your in a similar situation , down side is cost of the ammo.
the Deer season XP is running around 1.12 a round so affordable enough
the 20ga sabot a good price is around 2.20 a round you probably don't shoot a lot of the but definitly stock up on what your gun likes nothing seems to change faster than sabot slug loads and finding a new one is an expensive operation.
the big difference is the 328gr bullet that deer immediately had blood all over the place and 2 hole even though it hadn't gone any where
both shot nearly identical from the front the 20ga went in the neck came out behind the left leg so not as strait on but similar it was a larger deer that was a 1x2 buck

Similar penetration to the win 150 gr xp in 350 legand but your bullet retained more weight and didn't expand as much.
1900 fps is pretty slow and from my gun 8.5" it would probably be 200fps slower and would have less expansion. Looks like a good preformance from your 16"

But I have got to say from what I have seen from my boys 350 legand I don't see my 300 black out 1getting any use. The 350 legand I'd no 7mm-08 but in my restricted public ground hunting areas the 350 out preforms both my 357 mag carbines, 20g deer slugs, and 300 black out. They all work but I believe the 350 gets the best results.

Factory or reloads?
Company named Cavity Back Bullets makes a 125 gr. Copper bullet specifically designed for the blackout.

excellent point if I was building again I think I would go 350 , it was a purpose built deer round for restricted states/lands

vs 300blk was a sub sonic round given multi purpose use.

from the aspect of a easily suppressed multi purpose round with a good locked bolt gas operated platform it is good

as a dedicated deer round , there is just more better available but a decade ago that wasn't the case
we forget 350 legend hit the shelves in 2019
350 is still a limited range cartridge jsut carries a little more energy than the 300blk
that asks the question would it be worth change of barrel and gas tube and mag to go to 350legend cost on that looks to be about 225 and that would be a maybe the 150 at 1919 vs 170 at 2200
I think I would need to shoot some more deer with the 150 because I would be on the fence if the difference is big enough spend the money

Well it looks like you are getting good results. The 357 carbine and 8.5 black out were good enough for me and the boys. Never would have bout the 350L if not for the atf and brace crap. But since they did that and my 11 year old liked the cva scout In 350 I bought it. And it's an improvement. That said I have only seen 5 deer shot with it and all with 150gr xp. Mt 13 year old is shooting 170gr Hornady with inter lock. I don't expect then to expand as much or do as much damage. But he had shot 5 this year before gun seasion and keeps letting all the deer walk and likely won't shoot one with the combo this year unless we hunt public land again. He has let 3 walk this morning so far and it's barely sun rise.

Thanks. Definitely following. I also saw Federal has some Power Shoks out and they look comprable as well for deer. Only reading the posted factory info - not tried them out yet. Likely will get a box or so of each and turn my son loose to gather some meat.

if I could use 44mag carbine I would have bought one years ago I already reloaded for it

it was a cost of what I could build as a pistol that led me to the 300blk an other assembled as a pistol is a pistol.

also braces are legal again as of 2 weeks ago well at least for a while during the injunction

there are other firearms sold as handgun 16 inch barrel guns specifically the heritage 22lr revolver

for a barrel you can change over your short 300 to something else like a 350 legend or 300blk with a 16 inch barrel to get you using a stock and avoid brace issues , I did it with one of my other AR pistols barrel & hand guard had a spare stock around.

When I took the brace off I lost some springs. Pulled the optic and suppressor off and put it on something else..
I really have no use for it. Sucks my barrel is a cold hammer foraged f n barrel. I thought about slapping a 350 barrel and nice stock on it. Would need a gas tube and high quality barrel and I have read many have trouble reliability cycling. Honestly I prefer to pack a single shot over an AR. Thet are lighter and just handle better to me.
I only put the Blackout together to have the lightest recoiling adjustable indiana public ground deer legal gun when my youngest was 6 and recoil sensitive. But at 7 hecwas over that and rdroped his first deer with the suppressed 7mm-08. Kid was furs to jump up to shoot the bolt armlight AR 50 also but preferred the desert tec in 338 lapua over the .50.

went looking for some more of this deer season XP ammo and couldn't find any then yesterday I noticed this

[Linked Image]
these are 2 rounds next to each other the silver tip is nickeled

[Linked Image]

same BC .392
same velocity 1900
same bullet weight 150gr

so I went with the educated guess new marketing now that deer season is over
