I honestly do believe whiskey would be more valuable than gold in an end of the world type scenario. Even non-drinkers would want it for medicinal purposes. Silver and gold, however, would be easier to transport. Booze and coffee

I think the industrial use of gold is limited, yet lots of new gold comes out of the ground every year. Every time a new large gold deposit is discovered and developed local economies are enriched.Last one here seen home prices jump 40% basically overnight and lots of brand new pic ups all over the place. Not to mention all the toys. Must be lots of gold hoarding going on somewhere. Worldwide I believe the biggest end use is jewelry. It is used in electronics but quantities probably really small compared to necklace, etc

^^^^ Most of Asia stores a lot of the family wealth as high karat (22K or about 92%pure) gold jewelry. It is sold by the weight, generally not much more than 10% over spot. If you're ever in a major Asian city be sure to visit the gold district of the town, you'll see heaps of gold chains, and you'll need to literally elbow your way through the crowd to get to the sales counter.

^^^^^ Not really, there is any easy hack to find the reputable stores; you look for the shops that have crowds of local folks shopping there. Is pretty easy to recognize the less reputable shop; no one is shopping in them. I've bought and sold gold at these shops several times. When you go to sell, they take out their jeweler's loupe and look at the maker's stamp mark. It has never failed to work for me. And they pay almost spot.

It is used in electronics but quantities probably really small compared to necklace, etc Earlier personal computers used to have some decent precious metals in them but things have gotten a lot cheaper made, with way less PM's than before. I forgot what processor used to be considered the big score, I knew guys who had framed the first one of those they had scrapped. I still have some processors laying around somewhere that I need to sell.

I bought a 20 oz Squirt the other day for $2.75, a 15% increase from the last one that I could remember. Somebody is making money somewhere and its certainly not in the cost of corn or fuel that's involved in that fizzy drink.
