there are muzzle stuffing season extenders and muzzle loaders
the 700 is a Rem 700 that has a breech plug where the chamber would be a primer goes in the back of the breech plug and the bolt closes on the breech plug securing the 209 shotgun primer much like a ting cartridge it only sets off the main powder charge however which must be loaded from the muzzle
I checked the MN regs and you can use a magnifying optic and there is no restriction on ignition type so 209 closed system is OK
if your planning any western state hunts look at their regulations to see what you would need to be legal out there , some are no sabots , some are open ignition type , many are no optics so if your planning that for some day this might not be the muzzle loader for you or you may be getting a second.
1200 + optic and your not done yet
if your looking for accuracy with a muzzle loader and you want to push the limits of range , your going to need a
Rage rod
cleaning Jag
powder measure and flask
a can of a black powder substitute , real black burns more consisitently than most subs but it will not get you the kind of velocity you need to be super sonic at 300 yards
then projectiles and sabots
probably a loading tool to load the pointed bullets without mashing the nose so you can make 300 like you want
also 209 primers
so add that stuff up and I would guess your adding 250 more maybe 300 it is easy to spend more
it all adds up fast
OK so you now have a muzzle loader and scope and all the stuff to make it go boom
load development time what sabot and bullet is good for your gun
cleaning , you don't need any fancy chemical but you need hot water , a little dawn dish soap helps then a natural lube like bore butter or Wonder lube
plenty of patches , a bit of ant seize to put on the breech plug threads
and on the 700 a bolt break down tool , you need to clean inside the bolt so it doesn't corrode
say you go with Hornady flex tip 300gr https://www.hornady.com/muzzleloading/browse/50-cal-sabot-low-drag-with-45-cal-300-sst-bullet#!/
you can make 300 still super sonic your accuracy will depend a lot on your loading procedure and the load you find
when your done hunting for the day if you haven't fired the gun you remove the primer case it up and go home you want to keep it where it won't sweat so probably not bring it in the warm moist house.
if you fired and reloaded it you dump that by firing it into the ground , then go home and clean
if you only fired it and didn't reload then just home to clean.
muzzle loader performance starts costing by the yard .
with that Hornady bullet at their target velocity of 2130fps you have 5 inches drop at 200 , 13 inches drop at 250 and 26 inches drop at 300 so you better have the range finder out and have tested your load at those distances to know what your actuall drop is every 25 yards
2 inch scope height over bore and 150 yard zero.
now if you come back into say 125-150 yards things can cost less and take a fair amount less load development and data collection
anytime you push the outside limits you need to do more work to make sure you can account for all the variables
a lot of season extenders just want to toss some money at it looking for a solution and lots of people want to take your money and sell you their solution , but mostly lower goals or spend the time getting data
it can be done , in competition shooting 900 yards is possible , it takes a very heavy bullet and it falls feet not inches
