Has anyone live trapped squirrels and is it hard to do or are they easy to catch?
Got a friend in city that needs them thinned out because they're causing problems.

Got a friend in city that needs them thinned out because they're causing problems. city squirrels are easy if you catch while black walnuts dropping and collect up a bucket wait a couple weeks till they have eaten or hidden the majority of them then put a trap out with a black walnut all the way in the back also used peanuts and bird seed especially if they already have a taste for bird seed wire a tuna can to the back of the trap and put bird seed in it , you may have to wire a bitt of tin over the back to keep them from reaching in on traps with larger holes dispatch and clean them , the scouts used to love bbq foil squirrel

Made a living doing just that. Squirrels are easy.
Problems, like in the attic. Target that squirrel which will be her and her most recent litter. Find the hole and hang a 110 over it. You'll have her with 24 hours if you've done your part right. Reset until you've got the younguns, usually 3-4. When you go a few days of no catch no activity OR you catch a big nutted male the job is done seal the hole.
If the problem is squirrels on the bird feeder, get rid of the bird feeder.
General thinning? Think height. Height is a squirrels highway. Tops of fences, gutter lines, deck hand rails, stumps, limbs. Find them and screw cages to them. Double doors shine here. For bait get a bag of bird or parrot seed, the kind with peanuts, corn, large seeds and dried fruit. Don't be stingy, bait heavy and trail it in to give them a taste.
Best commercial bait WCS NB paste. Homebrew you want black walnut oil as a key ingredient. Peanuts and peanut butter are over rated, they work but black walnut is far better as is pecan oil if you can find it. Matter of fact you might consider no peanuts at all if you are in a location where peanut allergy may be a concern. If so, Sunbutter from sunflowers is really good.

Do not use rat snaps for squirrel. Good at giving them a headache but not much else. They can wear them like jewelry, ask me how I know. tried it had it in an opened end weasel box the trap smacks them and they go nuts for a minute then run off

Doing ADC work for 30 years I learned fast in an urban setting place all cage traps inside a wooden box so a captured animal (in this case squirrel) is not visible. Otherwise Aunty Giselda from across the street will call the ASPA and claim the squirrel has been there for days. Yup, wrapping with black plastic and duct taping it in place is how I was taught. Leave the back open for a tunnel effect. These days I don't care and welcome Aunty to say something. Push come to shove our wardens will have your back if your legal.
