Had some fun putting up a couple of raccoon like they used to do years ago. Not as easily done as I first though but I think they turned out alright. I might hoop one to see how it looks.

Wonder why the standard changed, looks to me like this would be way easier to grade. More work to stretch though. Cool vid Hern, thanks for sharing.

You did a good job on stretching that raccoon square. I use to buy some fur at NAFA fur auction every year. About 20 years ago they had a lot of 12 nice Raccoons that were stretched fur-side out like a Fox. I bid up to 10.00 each on them. I wanted to do a experiment with my tanning company just to see how they would tan and turn out. They went for I think 18.00 each. Always wondered how they looked when they were tan. Marty

Wetdog, that's pretty neat. Can you share how you made the cuts to skin?

That's kinda what I had in mind to do. Find some nice birch and make a rectangular frame.

Thank you. Where do you cut the hind legs off? Right at the knee?

Thanks. If I get a late season one, I may try that.

The old Sears fur marketing service wanted them square 70 years ago.

A bunch of little bugger coons put up suare would make for a fine quilted blanket, assuming that the tanned hide would retain its squareness.

I don't think they would retain the shape, but you can block it out that way I'm sure.
