Watching the local news this morning as well as the Today Show an nothing mentioned about Pearl Harbor.
I guess if we bring up our history it's going to offend some one.
Remember those who lost there lives.

I was born 6 months later before the invasion of Guadalcanal canal island and after midway. At school most teachers were vets and they made sure you knew when you were born related to the war they were in......jk

My grandfather fought in the Pacific. I’m very thankful for all the men that fought and those that lost their lives. Some absolutely horrific battles fought in the Pacific. If I remember right we had 20,000 casualties just taking Iwo Jima. Absolutely terrible battle for a 10 square mile chunk of sand and rock.

Thank God for Devil dogs

Our local Radio station in Syracuse (TK 99 / TK 105) started off
their Morning broadcast with a brief Pearl Harbor memorial remembrance.

Was pleasantly surprised that somebody remembered our
sailors, soldiers, and airmen who payed the ultimate sacrifice
in service to our country on December 7th, 1941.

Two bombs weren't enough on August 6th & August 9th, 1945
to pay the Japs back for their sneak attack on that "Day of Infamy".

Remember Pearl Harbor !!!

We remember the attack on Pearl Harbor,I have a cousin who was lost on the Arizona that day. Our little town had 2 brothers on the Arizona that day, one died and the one that lived was the youngest sailor on that ship. My dad was career Navy and had been in for 4 years when we were attacked. Our family will never forget.

Thank God for our brave military..both past and present. The Japs sure kicked the hornet nest.

Also, when I think of WW2...I think alot about those soldiers in the first assault waves on D-Day. Oh man...when those gates dropped down into the water......

A friend of mine who joined the Marine Corps was stationed at Pearl Harbor what a honor for him !

Only by the Grace of God. My father came home from PH the day of Dec 6th on leave and was visiting with my uncles the morning of the attack. It was a sad, and grateful day at the same time in the house.

Swamp wolf the same thing happened on all the Island of the pacific. It took a long learning curve to get it right. they (we) needed info on the type of sand and the tides, reef formations and etc to get a fast landing. Look up the book "Islands of (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman)" I read that while I was stationed there in the '60s. I visited many of the invasion sites, some out of the way locations along the New Guinea coast, Okinawa, and Indonesia islands

On this Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we'd like to cast a spotlight on Second Lieutenant Philip Rasmussen.

Rasmussen was one of the handful of American pilots who managed to take to the skies during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Like many others, the 23-year-old second lieutenant was still sleeping when his post at Wheeler Field was bombed, but he rushed outside and found an undamaged P-36 fighter sitting on the runway. Still clad in a pair of purple pajamas, Rasmussen took off and joined three other pilots in a dogfight against 11 Japanese aircraft. His plane was slower and less maneuverable than the enemy Zeroes, but he quickly managed to shoot one of them down. He then crippled another plane before two Japanese pilots raked his P-36 with machine gun and cannon fire, leaving behind some 500 bullet holes. Another Zero just narrowly missed when it tried to ram him.

Rasmussen’s canopy was blown off and he briefly lost control, but he managed to right his damaged plane and make a miraculous landing without brakes, rudders or a tail wheel. The young pilot was awarded a Silver Star for his bravery and went on to serve in the Air Force for another 24 years before retiring as a colonel. [Linked Image]
