Snares,if legal, probably catch a bunch of cats there.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Last year I threw out beaver carcasses on the backside of a pond dam in a brushy area. One day when riding by I noticed the carcasses covered up. I picked a pinch point near the carcass and made a blind set then made a rub set about 10 yards away. Next day had a double on cats. If it’s not in a brushy location already, you can add blocking/brush all around it leaving only spots for traps to go.

You can add more covering to it. Leave a spot or two for them to step and uncover it , place traps there. Remember if there is exposed meat birds will be troubles for you. I have not had cats shy away from me moving baits to better locations as long as it’s not very far or adding cover to them.

I think you mentioned something like that before and I tried it and it works. Had an untraveled road with tracks and just moved already fallen limbs with branches to either side of my set and had a cat the next check. Couldn’t believe how well it worked. Unfortunately I haven’t found a spot where that would work since, lol.

Think you also mentioned the exposed pan set for GA cats and it worked too. That was sorta not on purpose and me being lazy after a real good downpour. Drove by the check and pan was the only thing exposed. I sai heck with it and a cat was there 2 days later.

Exposed traps kills a lot of cats. Plus there's no toe catches. Like mentioned above, I would put a set in a trail leading to the kill, especially if you saw tracks in the snow. I would also set a few really flashy cubbies around the kill. Gang set the area. If there is multiple trails, set them all. Brush the sides, and put stepping sticks on each side of the trap. Cats have about an 8" stride so make sure the stepping sticks are placed so it's uncomfortable for a cat to step over the trap. Lure on the side blocking will slow down the cat to prevent it even more from stepping over the set. Exposed walk-throughs are quick to put in so gang setting doesn't take much time. The picture below is what all of my cat sets look like.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

Yep! As you know, Cats are pretty bold and throw caution to the wind most times. If I’m making a set specifically for cats (not very common) I have no problem with an exposed pan. Here’s a set that has taken a bunch of cats for me if I’m looking for something cat specific. If you can find two trees close together and hang a carcass between them. I like to use beavers for this, but obviously goose worked in this case. I will often break out some pine limbs and wire them over top if buzzards might be a problem. Block down heavy and set traps on both sides where they could enter. I used two exposed dls traps for this location and took three cats in this specific set that year

Cats can be easy to catch if they are in your area. Several methods work, you just to identify the best set up locations and wait. I mostly blind trail set, with exposed blocked down ground level set traps and then place several rub sets all along any corridor that I feel is getting traffic.
