Remember guys. If you let go of your catchpole for any reason in the process of releasing an animal and that animal takes off, there's zero drag on that pole to slow the animal down. Food for thought.

The best one Cumberlands had: Tomahawk adjustable. Was a clone of my last one (without the adjustable part, which I don't see using ever).

I clipped a lanyard onto the cable loop on the end of the new one. This is getting clipped onto my belt loop just in case I have another 1 in 100 mishap so it won't run off. Yes, it's probably overkill, but I clearly make mistakes here and there. If you never make mistakes, it need not be a thought smile

I know I'm not the only one who's done this per vidoes I've seen. Don't be like me.

330: No. I'll continue to look, however.

you sure you want a [torqued] off, semi-loose critter attached to you?

Had it happen with a fox and a short L shapped handle.
Fortunately the fox headed straight for thick cat tails.

Had that happen to me once. Was pulling a coyote out of the catch circle and it jerked hard, and the catch 4' catch pole slipped out of my grasp. I was young, the race was on. Was able to use my foot to stomp one the pole. I got my pole and coyote back. Funny to think of it now.

I quit hooking stuff to belt loops, because I always tore the belt loops off. It MIGHT slow down a critter long enough to get back ahold of the pole, but I doubt it. On the other hand, if you had the critter solidly attached to you, if it can't reach you with the pole in your hands, unless your four feet wide and it tries to wrap the pole around you, it shouldn't be able to reach you with the end of the pole attached to you.

Are these for releasing? I’d think if a pole is tight around the neck, then they ain’t making it far. Can’t fight or run too long without air.

I haven't had to release anything that I can think of yet (key word). I don't take the catch out of the trap until I know that it's expired.

I'd rather fight him than lose him and the pole.

Of course this has limitations.

Good advice on the belt loops tearing off.
