So I've been pondering ideas for a Lead in Scent and I've come to the idea that I like Otter Glands, Crawfish Oil, and some kind of mint oil, or a Sweet oil ( Honey, Vanilla, Anise etc) i also think if you can tincture it somehow to make the smells pop like an 100 proof unflavored liquor I think it would be promising.

You say you like this formulation, is this based off of testing the animals response to it?

Can't hurt to give it a shot. I've never had any luck using scent for otter. All my sets were blind sets.

It sounds like it would be a killer for bobcats. Otters discharge anal gland scent when they are alarmed or hurt...because of that I've have seen them very cautious around the smell of it. In my early going as an otter trapper I tried over and over using it but always felt like the results were very mixed. If you do use it I would not use it very close to your trap.

If your wanting to lead/attract otter...use a skunky lure.

Otter musk is emitted when alarmed....I wouldn't use that to attract otters.

Another idea, instead of Otter glands is to utilize Otter Urine. I haven't messed around much with making a lead in scent. I listened to a few podcasts that got the idea rolling

Otter urine can be dynamite for otter. It will definitely be checked out and likely they'll add their own. The difficulty is collecting any. About the only times I don't get a dry bladder is when I had a poor body grip catch (hip caught) and they couldn't urinate.

I one time caught an estrus female during the rut that way, cotton q tips soaked in her urine caught a bunch of big ol' males on toilet sets.

As I'm typing I had a thought: maybe even a dry bladder cut into pieces would have enough residual urine to do the trick. You might give that a try.

Vinke, a hard time as in it didn't work for you? Maybe it works so well for me because I tend to trap otters late while the males are traveling long distances lookin' for love.

As far as preserving it I just froze it as a default because I don't know what is the best way to store urine and not lose any pheromone response.

What about using otter puke or scat in a visible location where a passing otter would spot it?

I know otter scat works wonders, I've witnessed them literally dance for 3 minutes lifting both back feet in the pee and poop combo at Discovery Cove in Florida. So a poop and pee combo is insanely deadly.

All 4 peed and pooped one after another in the same spot.
