Unless you want to wise them up over time, wait till ALL are going in the trap before setting. Had a sow took 13 days to go in, would come twice a day to let her piglets feed but wouldn't go in. Sometimes they barn storm in other times they won't go in one for love or money, i haul in a drop type trap for those, usually they walk under it the first night!
But im working PHD. hogs everyone and his brother has shot at, trapped ran with dogs, etc.

On a serious note, there is one thing i wondered about when reading on the hog trapping thing. Has anyone tried a hog decoy in center of trap to entice them in ? Decoys work for many different things. But maybe trap shy hogs are totally trap shy hogs
TILL THAT DAY.....

Start outside the trap and run a line of corn from there into the trap, let them start feeding and follow it into the trap, once they start feeding into it scatter it around all in the trap like your feeding chickens vs just pouring alot in a pile at the back. They will eventually work their way to the back and trip it. I quit root sticks long ago, trip wires are the way to go.

The simple answer gets complicated. If all you are doing is harvesting food, set the trap as soon as they eat all the feed 2 nights in a row.
For population control, I'd suggest some surveillance gear. You don't want to set the trigger or drop the gait until you get the whole sounder coming in hard and fast competing for the feed.
I give great advice but I suck because I haven't built a round trap yet. I'm a snaring fool tho, and that is how I clean up the left overs after the traps thin the bunch out.
