Had All of them in the trap tonight

Hope you get them all Ark Trapper. I've trapped 30 this year so far in three drops and have about 20 left to go. They have wised up, but be patient, and keep feeding and have your trip wire or root stick at the back of the trap. Eventually, they will slip up and go in. Right now on my place, they have a lot of acorns they are still eating so a little harder to trap around here. When the acorns run out, they get a little easier. If they are consistently going in every night, then I would drop it.

Yes, they will get smart and avoid a trap all together, but it has been my experience that if you keep feeding and keep the door open, they will eventually go in.

Swamp Wolf, I've been wanting to try this for a long time and just haven't done it yet. I can definitely see how it would have to work. They are not that smart.

So what does the mirror do?

In my mind, a good plexi glass mirror will reflect the hogs image back at them. Need a plexi mirror cause if they go in and get trapped a glass one will break.

I don't think hogs are smart enough to self recognize. I think a bunch that wont go in, will see their reflection and think others are feeding in the trap.

I'll bet money it works on old wised up boars that won't go in the trap too! They see their reflection and think its another boar hog and will go to it.

4x8 box traps used to be the norm around until hogs stopped going in them. I bet a 4x4 plexi mirror in the back of that trap would up the success rate a lot.

I might try that. We have an old trap where I have a ladder stand and have killed quite a few hogs. I bet if I can bait it up and add a mirror it might just work. It was abandoned due to the pigs wising up to it.

Brush the trap in real good to make look natural, and I bet it works.

No particular reason on the root stick, i just like the trip wire system better. Lot of the hogs i deal with i don't think ever root!

That mirror idea is interesting, had more lone boar's not go in a trap last summer than i ever have, as aggressive as they are i can see that being the ticket.

Ste the trap for real tonight caught 8 of the larger pigs. 3 of the smaller pigs were not in the trap when it went off.. they hung around until we showed up to take care of business

Good job. Those three will be a bit educated of the trap now. When they see their buddies freaking out inside the trap, they will associate the trap with bad things and tend to avoid it for a while.
Seems there is always a handful around outside the trap when you catch most of them. I carry a gun with me checking and walk up to it for this reason so that I can shoot some of the ones hanging around.

Although, those handful might be educated now, just be patient and keep baiting. Put the doors up and and keep baiting. Feed more outside this time to get them coming and eventually feed all inside the trap. Yes, its a slower process, but they will slip up and go in if they don't move on first.

All you can do, i like trap out in the open so i can sneak up and blast what few are outside it as well. Star Trek traps allow me to watch on the phone till they are all in before dropping it, keep thinking if someone in 1985 had told me one day you'll be trapping with a telephone id of got a big laugh out of that yet here we are, sit on the couch and catch hogs, lol.

I was turkey hunting in NM and the camera went off letting me know hogs were in the trap in GA. I hit the button and caught the pigs, lol. It was 11pm where I was and 1am back home. I just sent the manager a text that I knew he’d see the next morning and said someone had some pigs to take care of, lol.

Tech stuff is crazy isn't it!

Awesome job Ark ! My buddy in Florida uses a crumb shovel to dig a 3x3’ hole about a foot deep , dump in a five gallon bucket of corn and then fills the dirt back in . One bucket of corn lasts a long time as they are rooting a foot deep , it also helps keep the deer and coon from cleaning it up .
