I can set up mine myself. Built my internal frame with nuts welded to the Y and T's, t handle bolt holds everything together. Put frame together with legs on one side only, put canvas on, go to other side and lift up, put those legs on. Its a handful but can be done. You could just tape the joints too.

We used to live in a canvas tent, 12x16 for a family of four. Miss those days sometimes.................................. [Linked Image]
Smaller tent was the supply tent, yellow ribbon is the electric bear fence...................

I know a guy that traps cats out west for 3 weeks or so out of a wall tent, always dreamed of being part of that trip. The stories from his trials and tribulations over the years are nothing short of epic.

life is good......

Ran into a trapper while elk hunting in ID. He stayed in a wall tent and had line camps also. He met his wife every 2 weeks with fur and she had alfalfa pellets for horses and supplies for him. He must have been at the end of the 2 weeks, he wanted to chat!

GCP - It is a Spring Valley tent. It has 2 internal uprights with a ridge (2x4s) and 10 short exterior side poles (2x2s). I can put the tent and fly up myself in about 40 minutes, with help about 30 minutes.
Best pic I can find at the moment.

Get some canvas painters drop cloths to hang along the inside walls, I bought a box of 4 5 x15 ft drop cloths and we hang them on the side walls for a little insulation, cold air barrier, and more privacy.
We spend about 7-10 days in our wall tent every Fall hunting season, some years more if we draw a good tag for elk.

Wall tents are cool I have hunted out of them.

I see tents like these at the rendezvous, but the mountain men did not have tents. When did canvas wall tents actually come into common use? I believe some were used during the civil war, maybe that was where they got their start. Any history buffs have an answer?

Canvas tents have been around since at least the middle ages. Mountain men didn't carry them as they are large and bulky. There were some smaller wedge style tents in the West, mainly for use at trading posts/sites.

on that note a tent or tepee was often given to the bride by her husband , she owned it so she always had the home/shelter if he up and got himself killed or something or so I have been told.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
