If there is cattle problems close to that area,( 15 miles) then Conservation can issue special permits so it always best to work with your local CO.

That’s probably why Hannibal wanted me to pick one up. I asked if he was interested in one for that price. Duke shipped me the adjustable pan too.

Does that radius( 15 miles) extend into the USA. Quite a few of those wolves have collars and when they pass into Canada then conservation is notified.
as was the situation over at Pansy a couple of years ago. Collar wolf and 10 feet away was FWS and Boarder patrol waiting for the producer to check snare that morning. One point in knowing where the actual line is (49th) , and having short cable on your rams.
With "555" trapper passing there will be 200 used rams from Dm beaver for sale soon. RIP Dwyane

I'm about 18 miles from the border. There's a farmer about 3-4 miles away that always shoots a couple feeding on a dead pile every winter. Haven't approached him, but I know there's another fella trapping a mile from our shack, but also sets up closer to the farm I believe.. He got a small female last year.

I liked Dwayne's channel, alway's made me laugh, especially the one where he's checking his snares after a triple bypass and winded easily. " ohhh I hope there's not another deer in there. I don't want to wrestle one in my shape. Last year I'd just bull doze it down and cut the snare free" ......or something like that.

I guess with #1 Rams, I could make my own wolf snares to the length of the smaller coyote ones. There's a coworkers brother who'd sell me some of his #1s in western Mb. Savvy's got some wolf rams and other stuff I'm going to buy off him.

I see that the Bridger #5 Alaskan is on your approved list. That is a better trap than the Bridger 9, and a better trap for snow conditions than the 750. I know guys that use them with success almost exclusively on their wolf lines. I've caught a few in them. Also pretty reasonable at around $40 usd, not sure what that would translate to in your neck of the woods. I run Ak #9s, some No BS wolfers, Bridger #5s, occasional 750 and one Koro thrown in that hasn't connected yet. I use a mix of drags and solid anchors. Trying to go with solid where I can, tired of having swamp donkeys walk away with my gear.

I see Enigmaticgwetchin uses #5s as well. Dogless $75 reg $45ish…similar to Mb750. The #9, even with pan tension too light should grab high, maybe caught the pan with a toe? I don’t know. Now that I relocated my sets to a different pile, they’ll come back to that little bait pile…lol

Hmm, so Canada, the place where freedom is SO prevalent also tells you what you can/ can't use to trap animals?

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

Maybe JR can sell you some Alaskan 9s with no marks on the pan. Then you can stamp whatever you want on the pan! Think your enforcement guys would know the difference?

Well, I’m certainly making a phone call before I lay anything that’s not on the list. There’s a lot more really well made traps out there where the manufacturer (be it a big company or just a guy in his garage) just hasn’t sent one to get certified.

the two CO's that work that area are well versed on what can and can not be used....for Shakey to loose a year of trapping rights....well there is not a re-hab facility to deal with his with-drawl symptoms if he could not trap.

Who would know we would have this yo-yo weather patterns this winter to deal with.

The only numbers I’ve got are Dylan’s out of Beasejour & Bob Windsors, I met a new Sargent and a younger fella a few times this year. He stopped asking for a license, just said good luck and to clean out the beaver…lol. They’ve always been a good source of info.
I’ve got a couple dozen snares from lights out after Bob said they might get approved this season, but they’re hanging in the shed for now.
I’ve never looked at a #5, but what I like about the #9 is the tall jaws. But like you say about the weather, no deep snow but the 1” of wet slush snow topped with a few inches of dry snow goofed with everything….event the trails changed.

Trappers here strive to use the most humane tools available.
Our trap testing program passes traps that meet the humane standards that trappers want to protect trapping.
If the manufacturer in another country does not have his traos tested, then that is his choice, but they wont make the list if not tested and passed and wont be used by trappers here.
Almost all traps tested pass, and if not recommendations are made to help the manufacturer make the changes to meet the standards.
I dont think wolf restraining trap testing for the aihts is finished yet so anything that is legal under provincial regs currently are good to go.

And as far as govt mandating what we can and cant use,we are way better off here in that regard than you are in the states, heck you cant even trap at all in a lot of the states, lol.

Now I am going out to check a few wolf snares 330.
