NICE I don't think I 've ever seen a 1/4 cross fox that far south and east, congrats. That's a color phase of the red fox 1/4 cross and sometimes they call them bass turd fox I do not where that name came from.Up north here 30 years ago I would guess 1 in 7 fox we caught would be bass turds fox they are very cool looking.

I believe that is 1/4 silver. Cross between a cross fox and a red most likely.

When I lived in Maryland, a friend of mine caught a cross fox just north of Indian Head. There seems to be some that pop up there from time to time. Nice looking light cross fox you have there. A cross is a color phase of the red fox. When I was in Alaska, I saw a family of red foxes playing on a dirt road. There was one silver pup, two cross pups and three red pups, all siblings.

Folks in Alaska called that coloration “a basterd” fox.
And yes, that was a blatant avoidance of the profanity filter!

Maybe a cross between a grey and red fox? An anomaly for sure.

Wife: That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert, doesn't that embarrass you? Me: No, I keep telling them it's for you.

Greys and reds are not genetically compatible.

Was that an avoidance of just bad spelling? LOL

Love those cross phases .
Back in the live market days I caught a family of fox in late August.
The dog was full blown silver, , the vixen was red..
There were 5 pups. 1 was silver, 2 cross and 2 red with cross features.
The north east corner of WY used to have alot of cross and silvers.

I caught one similar to the color phase in PA many years ago. I had it tanned.

That's a cool looking red. I bet you could get some decent money for it on the taxidermy market. All the many variations and color phases of red fox are very interesting to me.

Years ago we used to catch a lot of what we called charcoal-bellies; reds that were very dark or black from the belly down the legs, they looked like regular southeast PA reds from the belly up. Eventually that color-phase petered out.

Eh...wot?
