I’m sure there are lures and attractors that get a deers attention at times that have value. l just think of all the matrix advertised lures put out that we know how the matrix magic cannot be harnessed so how legit are the other products then.

Not that the matrix product won’t attract deer it just has nothing to do with a true matrix impact.

When James was alive at James Valley Scents we used them exclusively, since then quality has gone down in my opinion. I believe he passed from cancer.

I had good success using his lures to lay scent trails near my stands. I believe he ground glands from both bucks and does and used them is his lures. Maybe even some deer hair in them.
He was a pleasant guy to do business with. He died a relatively young man. I think his name was Tom. Edit. His name was John Collins.

Yes he was and he produced a fantastic product. I used his lures for laying scent trails. They worked.

Deer season opens tomorrow with a high of 70 degrees. That sucks. Next week is highs in the low forties to upper thirties with one to three inches of snow predicted for Monday. That's a bit more seasonable.

Smokeys brand. Worth every penny. Follow the directions on the bottle and all is good.

There are some effective Deer Scent products out there. Obviously, there also may be some that don't seem to get the results that you expect. Like making any good scent product it begins with good ingredients and knowledge of what will make up a good positioning or frequency scent.

Application and varying scent displays can make a difference and also the time of the season it is being used. Most wild deer and other wild hooved animals will be more prone to respond and react to sound and scent more aggressively in the pre rut and full rut. I have seen some good reactions to some odors and combination odors over the years in testing and from others sharing their experiences and photos.

I’ve only grunted in a couple does but everyone in our party has called in many bucks (MOSTLY smaller) with bleat cans. I have a couple vintage grunt calls I got at a rummage sale that sound awesome and I can’t wait to try next weekend!

We’ve had good luck with golden estrus. Yes, it’s no magic pill but the deer seem to almost always respond to it with proper wind etc. I agree that paying attention to the wind is much more important than added scents, but it’s a tool that can swing the pendulum in your favor sometimes. Around here we don’t have thermals for the most part due to lack of elevation changes…..that’s a whole nother ballgame!

Happy trapping! ScottW

Setup is everything with deer calling, particularly when it comes to mature bucks. Most of the time they're going to come in downwind and silent. Most of the time. I try to setup where they can't go downwind.

Scott it's been years but somewhere out on the web their is a video of some dork who covered his whole body with some sort of doe in estrus and he got his (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) kicked. The buck that objected would raise up on it's back legs and paw the crap out of the dude.

I figure some Ojibwa hunter tried that back in the 27th century and that is where the wendigo legend started.

It's getting harder all the time to come up with a catchy sounding name to label deer lures. We're going to have to delve into goats pretty soon. I think goat urine is mostly what the majority of brands bottle.

I will attest to this. I use it religiously and have had deer all around my 10-12ft ladder stand. Granted they were does, fawns, and younger bucks. But I didn’t have the first deer blow or spook even when they walked around downwind.

I bought this and used it this season. Deer hunted about 25 times. A few times no deer were seen. Every time a deer came in contact with this it was positive. Did not spook does/fawns and they went right to it. Had bucks/does/fawns trail the scent when I sprayed it on my boots. Stuff works great and I only used 20% of the bottle.
