Newfox,
Miss Aalaiya just got here a while ago. Her mother is working all weekend so she'll stay with us. I left one set in to check and hopefully can make one or two more with her.
We're running out of sites to trap beaver. Will take her and ask permission at one place tomorrow.
Hopefully we can meet the man that owns the property.
Might flesh a couple small ones tomorrow and let her put up some more. She really enjoyed that last weekend
I'll be sure to snap a picture or two and post.

Pretty good second check. 15 beaver and 4 nutria out of 25 traps. I could barely make progress against the current going back upstream to the landing!
Tomorrow I’ll pull this line and catch up on the skinning chore.

Miss Aalaiya and I found one waiting for us this morning.
After that we took a drive looking for more places to trap.
One person told us no and another told us after deer season which means January.
When we got home Aalaiya dried and combed the one we got. I fleshed one from the other day. We put that one up on the board. We had a great time now we're having lunch [Linked Image]

Good goings on. Looks like everybody’s havin’ fun.

I had a very symmetrical three day run on the big river. From an average of 25 traps I caught 20 first check, 15 second check and 10 for the third. Then pulled my line. Got some skinning to catch up on.

Check #3:

Also caught a three-legged:

Interesting note: The last 45 beaver I caught the smallest was a LM, only one of those, maybe 3-4 L's, and all the rest XL's and blankets. A pretty large sized run of beaver. This is from a stretch of river that I didn't trap last year.

Doing a ADC job, guess they had a gentlemen in Springtime and could not catch all the beaver. They where using this culvert to travel under the road, Comstock cage for the win! Love the paying jobs this time of year.

Caught our 1st beaver ever, we have problem beavers we have to take care of in the creek.
A nice 40 pounder.
Now the spouse gets to learn beaver skinning, hopefully the clean skinning method, and I get to learn put up on beavers.
Caught in a Bridger #3.

Anyone know where we can get a paint scraper or whatever tool is used for the clean skinning; the large flat, rounded scraper it looks like?

Most hardware stores will have "Hyde" brand paint scrapers like this one. It's all I use. Grind or file a little off the corners and you're golden.

BTW, this is a good year to practice clean skinning. Even if you make a bad move with the felt market you lose no value. Watch a video or two and see what you can do. Keep the knife very sharp and you'll see it goes pretty good. New skinners make tiny strokes because they're so cautious. Old timers make bigger sweeping strokes and get that pelt off pretty dang quick.
