Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I do the same as sportsman94 and others...roll the hide once inward and your gripping fur.
The rope trick and using your knee or foot also work well.
Make sure you hang the animal at the proper height for what you're doing and adjust as you pull hide.
Also, small section of 1/4" rod with a rounded end and a handle (similar to a sharpening steel) is great for pulling armpits.

Just happy to be here.

Yes I’ve used a big screwdriver in the armpit region! I’m learning about proper working height and it has been of great benefit!

That is it, so much easier than pulling with your hands.

Check out the manual skinning device in above link. Kind of neat. Haven't used one but could be a helpful tool. It's called the skinner friend.

That is cool, weld a couple of 2 inch pieces of rebar on a pair of vice grips and you have a skinning machine.

It's good to know because it can save you some money in trapping. I welded a piece of 1/4 " flat on my hammer to did trap beds, I also made stabilizers to hold the 330 steady in the water.

Mostly because trappers as a whole are poorer than other groups, so they have to learn to fix things for themselves since they can't afford to pay someone else to do it.

It's fun, especially mig-welding with gas. You should learn that too. Then you can modify traps, make cool supports for body grips, make other cool non-trapping related things too. I am constantly fixing my wife's wind spinners.
The vice grip thing is a tiny job that you could get someone to do for you.

I will get you a close up of the vice grip on my skinning machine so you can see exactly what you need if you would like.
