With my work schedule, I’m on the road 4 days a week. My intention is to snap my traps and leave them in the bed instead of taking the traps with me and resetting them in the same bed when I get my days off. Has anyone else done this? How much of a problem would it be for canines especially to leave a snapped trap in a bed and then reset it? Thanks in advance.

That is not legal in Illinois, but I’ve read where guys in other stated have covered the trap with a shingle.

I believe in Pa. a staked trap is considered trapping, set or not and falls under the same check schedule as a set trap I believe technically. It may be something that should be run by your local WCO and may very well be up to the discretion of the officer if such a situation does occur.

If each trap were covered with a piece of plywood/shingles/heavy bark etc. you may get a pass for that legally. As far as the animal's concern, I have done in several times in Kansas when I have had several locations set up for cats. Then an outfitter that has the ranch leased for hunting quail doesn't want his dogs caught.

I just cover all my sets for the time I am asked to do this. I have caught cat and coyotes a day or two after I reactivated my sets. It won't affect their behavior. They may be inclined to dig at the odor and move your coverings possibly.

These traps are still set but covered with some large chips of peeled bark that I found locally. I remove the bark covers off the traps when I get the OK to activate my sets once again. It is inconveniencing for a day or two, but better than losing a good cat ranch.

Is trapping that looked at up there? Do y’all have that many GW that they roam the woods looking for traps?
I’m not saying GA doesn’t, just that I’ve never seen them around. It may be that all my trapping is on private property, gated at that. But the ones I’ve talked to about trapping just say catch’em all.
