Very fortunate these ice fishermen dodged a bad situation. I just seen this on National News.

Interesting. I heard about it this morning but was told they didn't get them off the ice until this morning. The wind sure howled here last night and I am sure it was quite an ordeal.

I have nothing clever to put here.

oh they say their poor equipment was left on the ice....
but with cold temps they may get it today
and we are having 50 mph south winds now
there stuff should make it back to shore...sometime....if they put floats on their side-by-sides

Already had an ice shack that had to get pulled out on a lake less than an hour north of me. A late entry for idiot of the year award.

They will get their stuff back eventually. Unless it floats into the reservation.

My boy helped pull the bridge at red lake. They asked he had heard the warning sirens and he had not. Pretty scary deal IMO

Very interesting how the wind can break away the ice. Very glad it all turned out well for them.

It must have been something like this.

I'm glad no one was hurt, but this happens way too often at Red lake, the resort owner's open there excess points into the lake way too early every year.People are in too big of hurry to get out on thin ice, less than 10" strong wind's can break away ice real easy up to 10" maybe even more than that.Every year we hear about 8" of ice breaking away and most of the time it's Red lake making the news.If it happens one every ten years it would be different, but when its 6,7 times in 10 years that the resort owners fault IMO.....Glad everyone got back in safe.

Our local fire chief used to get so ticked and these guys, around here and they lay a sheet of plywood on thin ice and sometimes go through. Then the firemen have to rescue them, for fish. Hope they all have to pay for all the services and time provided. A huge donation should follow. If they want to die thats fine but what about the rescuers?

First ice I slide a 12' Jon boat onto the ice with X amount of rope tied to a tree back on shore. Sit in the boat and ice fish. I'm not familiar with this situation up there, but if'n it was me, I'd lay the 2 horse Honda in the boat and pull the boat out like a sled and at least have a plan. Seems to me a fella could read the weather forecast beforehand and go from there. But I don't live there so I really don't know.
