So I have a large pond that I recently was asked to manage the beaver on so checked it out today. I walked the edge looking for bank dens and then out to the lodge to see if I could find the entrances but could only find one. The food catch is rather large and the bubble trail to and from the lodge is more like an air pocket indicating lots of activity. My problem is that I can only find the one run and it is deep, perhaps 5' or so. If I could find the entrance I would obviously set a 330 but since it's so deep and the ice is thin I would probably end up educating them. Was thinking about suspending a baited 330 close to the run and hope for the best. Hanging snares off a bait pole would be another option but the ice is not as thick as I would like it to be and the warm weather isn't helping. Waiting for thinker ice or open water is also and option. Open to suggestions.

I'd say wait for thicker ice, then hammer them!

Weather forecast is for rain on and off the next few days so the poor quality of ice is only going to get worse. Will wait to set but still need to figure out my game plan.

Snarepoles or baited 330s will work.
If you are worried about falling thru the thin ice you can use an aluminum ladder(as long as you dont have a long hike in thru the bush) to work off of,it will spread out your weight, and if you do go in you can use the ladder to get out.
If the ice has a chance of melting the snarepole would not be a good idea, but the baited 330's would still be good.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

It's quite a walk to carry a ladder Boco. As it looks now it'll probably be a few weeks til I can go back due to the warm weather. Rain today has really soften up the ice and I really don't feel the need to go for a cold swim.
