I received a dozen Duke 110s for free from a giveaway and was modding them how I like, no chain with a Hagz spring clip and I realized after the first one that it had about a 1" gap when unset. Is this normal? I haven't bought a new Duke Conibear in years. It also seems like the rivets are loose, which is probably the problem. And this is not only on the modded one but also the untouched ones too.

typical duke 110. decent for submerged sets like dens and BE sets, as they hold, but wont kill on the initial blow. youll want a 160 sized trap for use with the hagz clips.

That's what I was going to use it for. I have 159 that I use but I need some 110s for my shallower runs where the ice is not allowing a larger trap like the 159s, just flat out sucks. I have used 110s with them before, may I ask why only 160 sized traps?

most use the hagz clips for baited sets, and the larger jaw spread makes a HUGE difference in misses, over the smaller 110s. ive never seen a run where a stick through the spring wasnt good enough, so no need for the clips and glass stakes. the clips are better suited for baited conis for rats, where the trap can be positioned at the desired depth under the ice.

re-read your post. if you have runs so shallow that a 159 wont fit under the ice, theres sure no need for a clip and a tall glass stake, right? i see you have a jar full of clips there. best use of them would be to install them on all your 159s.

I loved using them in runs last year. It's nearly impossible to find a straight enough stick around here to use for that. I have all of my 159s outfitted with clips already.

I prefer my conibears that way, I don't want foot catches and they will hold any body catch just fine. Also, when I catch my fingers in them they come out a lot easier than in a magnum wink

I hardly ever have been caught in a trap in the woods, but in my cellar playing with them several times......jk

If they still make them next time buy the magnum models that should not be an issue then.

I won these in a giveaway otherwise I would have gone with a better quality trap.

I haven't caught myself in a coni yet but I know I will one day. I just figured the rat would have more chance of not getting caught.
