Chromemolly 20BR barrel finished with titanium base coat and tactical black design. I am going to put a matte clear on next. I like the way the duracoat looks and it sets up harder than woodpecker lips.

Then I have a MDT chassis stock to drop it in.

That barrel is beautiful!

How does that finish hold up and resist dings and scratches?

It holds up pretty well, it's not totally cured and at it hardest for 3 or 4 weeks. Overnight it is dry to the touch, not tacky or soft. Surface prep makes a huge difference on how well it sticks.
Thanks, I thought it turned out great too.

Can you give a little insight how you did it? Is that a paint design? That does look pretty awesome! Can't wrap my head around that being a gun barrel, looks like carbon fiber!

It started as a bare steel polished barrel on a Howa receiver.

The receiver is taped up with masking tape as well as the threads on the muzzle.

I used the duracoat degreaser spray to clean it. Then I scuffed it all over with a scotchbright pad.

Mixed up and sprayed it with 3 coats of titanium duracoat and let it dry overnight.
Then I slid a plastic weave over it like they ship barrels with to protect them.
I mixed up the Tactical black and sprayed a medium coat over the plastic weave on the barrel. It works like a mask.

Let it sit overnight and slide off the plastic mesh and it leaves the design.

Here is the plastic weave, kind of like a Chinese finger trap.

It's got a little hole in it. grin I was going for light in this build that is why I am going with a chassis stock. The optics and suppressor add some more too. Didn't want to drag a heavy barrel gun and tripod around. I am hoping it's a tack driver.
Here is the stock for it.

After the matte clearcoat. It still looks wet in a couple spots in the pic, but dulling down as it dries. But you could do glossy if you wanted, this is a hunting gun so I don't care as much.

If you want the paint to last longer than the six-to-eight-hour shelf life after adding the hardener you can put it in the fridge in case you need some touch-up.

Beautiful design, did someone give you the idea or did you come up with that on your own? If so, kudo's to you!

I have etched stainless barrels like that for years with an air eraser, its like an airbrush size sand blaster. I will post a picture of the same design on stainless. You can make it darker going over it more.

I had not ever used duracoat before and I thought it would work with paint, but didn't know until I tried it.
