filled my first ever bobcat the first night. caught by the hind foot at a dirt hole. my question is what percentage of the cats caught are caught by the hind foot and do you bobcat guys think a cat will back up to spray urine and that accounts for a back foot catch ?

Thanks in advance

… always get a few by the back foot… could be backing up and marking or getting them turning and walking off

.. get more backfoots in walkthrough type sets

… sometimes they work a set hard ..sometimes just give it a look over and move on

.. congrats on your first wildcat

I’m on same page as Savell. I get a few hind foot’s in walk thru and also blind trail sets. Most of my dirthole set catches have been by front foot. But not always.
Same thing with coyotes, Sometimes at dirtholes I get a coyote by back foot too. Most have been front foot catches though. No apparent reason other than they have four feet and while checking out the set that is the foot that connected…and glad it did.

I get hind foot catches on males late in the season when using gland lure and urine at the hole.

What Savell said. My walk through sets catch a few by the back foot. Posts as well but I basically set them up as a walk thru.

Back when I used alot of cubbie and trench sets most of the back foot caught cats were females.
