grease the lugnuts/bolts and also grease the face of the wheel and hub and torque to spec..
Been doing it for decades, never had one fall off and more importantly I can get them off without issues.
Nothing more unnecessary than trying to remove rusted on lug nuts and then beating the wheel off the hub.

If you think that lubing will lead to over torque you ain't seen most mechanics with a torque wrench go at it.

It don't really matter in any event. The torque specs has a range. its usually about +/- 7-8 ft lbs.
If you lube it reduce the torque spec to 3/4 of the dry torque spec.

torque chart

For those that want to know.

Some individuals use statistics as a drunk man uses lamp-posts — for support rather than for illumination.

That's because, as usual, folks reply without READING , or maybe without COMPREHENDING what OP.is saying

Crappy lugnut covers make it hard to.remove lugnuts, and then get stuck.in socket and have to.be driven out.
Became a, To Lube or Not to.Lube, That is the Question arguement.

FTR, I DONT use never seize on wheel studs but I DO wax conis...
