That seems high ...but I'd like $100 Most taxidermists don't trap. Otter, fisher and cats are $100 animals in NY.

Groeny is buying green & skinned otter and putup otter for around $20.00 to 30.00 in New York State right now.
w I find it hard to understand why fur harvesters (meaning trappers) are selling for those prices? The Otter market is getting better.

w That is why I never set an otter trap this year. I just won't kill them for $20-30.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Taxidermist's all have different ways to buy if doing so, it's best to get ahold of them and ask how they wish them to be prepared is at all !
If one can't its better to clean the fur and keep them cold to sell full body and do so quickly unless you already now how to prep full body, which in my previews almost no one knows how to do properly !
If you can prep them put up and then freeze properly for moving but then you are going to have the how long froze conversation and did you prep it correctly, which automatically will drop your dollars
Bottom line is ask high then squabble about final price on a whole fresh caught body.
Best to find out prices and this knowledge before the seasons start then call the taxi' people when fresh caught you can always put them up for a not right now answer.
I buy them put up all the time in singles and doubles for $50.00 each by just pictures on put up usually smalls as well, larger have done for $75.00 tops same way, not over a year put up though, if your put up is not professional then your offer will suffer from me !! Pictures are always need for proof for me !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

What I find hard to believe is groeny gave me 50 bucks last year for otter and the otter shipped to FHA never sold The Otter have all sold this fall at FHA. What you don't understand is...you will be paid after the next auction when they process thousands of checks through E-checks. And if Groenewold gave you $50 last year, and the otter market is rising, why are they only paying $20-$30 this year??? That's a question.

w Maybe the taxidermist should buy an otter from Groeny. I’d bet he’d charge him a hundred bucks Trappers value what they do and sell so darn low it’s ridiculous.

I think $100 is a bit high but you could start there and see what happens. I think you’d both be happy at $75. $75 should work for both of you.If the TAX does not like the price I would pass on the sale and maybe he will get the hint.

Here’s the way I see it Groenewald runs a business and he has to make a profit like any other business or you go belly up . FHA is the same that’s why they hold thousands of dollars back till as you say next year and draw interest on our money . Smart business decisions but all I can find is a 74% sale on otters and can’t locate the fall sale results and my account is still showing unsold .

Get very large otter in southeast Alaska, and most areas, they are very abundant. My take on otter is, they are a royal pain to skin, and worse to put up properly. Even a $100. average has me not that interested in them. But every year I made one otter set, and first check would have an otter. I then pulled the trap. By the time I got the pelt off, I remembered why I didn't re-set.
